Grønlands Universitet
Det er med tryk på Universitet, dvs. at man fastholder samme akademiske standarder og målsætninger vedr. forskning og uddannelse som andre universiteter, men emnerne i undervisningen og forskningen er Grønlands- og/eller Arktisk-orienterede. Desuden er der vægt på områder, der inddrager det Nordatlantiske område (Grønland, Island, Færøerne, Nordnorge). Metode- og teoriområderne er de samme som anvendes andre steder, dvs. at der anvendes meget internationalt baggrunds-stof, som søges tilpasset den aktuelel forskningssituation.
Der findes et samarbejde med udenlandske universiteter, primært danske og nordiske. Grønlands Hjemmestyre har desuden underskrevet samarbejdsaftaler med et par canadiske universiteter, som vil forøge de grønlandske studerendes muligheder for at læse i udlandet.
Ilisimatusarfik hører ind under Direktoratet for Kultur, Undervisning og Forskning, hvor det ansvarlige Landsstyremedlem er Lise Skifte Lennert.
Institut for Grønlandsk Sprog, Litteratur og medier
Ved Institut for Grønlandsk beskæftiger man sig både med grønlandsk sprog, litteratur og medier, ikke kun i Grønland, men også i internationalt perspektiv.
Undervisningen på det litterære område sigter på at vise hvordan litteraturen har udviklet sig fra gamle sagn og fortællinger til postmoderne, postkoloniale eller minimalistiske udtryksformer både i litteratur, film, musik og andre former for massemedier.
Inden for det sprogvidenskabelige område drejer undervisningen sig om både grammatisk og betydningsmæssig analyse af sprog ikke kun grønlandsk, men også i sammenligning med andre sprog, for at klarlægge, hvad der er specielt grønlandsk, og hvad der er fælles for mange af jordens sprog. Men studiet af sprog omfatter også spørgsmål om dialekter, tosprogethed, samspillet mellem taler og lytter og forholdet mellem sprog og samfund.

The Centre's Role
The Centre for Research in the Humanities provides a common forum for research, research education and research related activities at the Faculty of Humanities. The Centre was founded in an effort to strengthen research, and to coordinate the activities of five research institutes associated with the faculty. The Centre also administrates the graduate programs offered in the Faculty of Humanities.
Faculty members in the Faculty of Humanities, adjuncts and graduate students are fellows in the Centre and entitled to its services. The Centre also seeks to develop broad contacts with members of the public interested in humanities and conducts a mailing list for that purpose. Institutes
The Centre was founded to coordinate and facilitate research at the Faculty of Arts. It acts as a common front of the five disciplinary research institutes that organize research and publish scholarly works under the auspices of the Faculty of Arts. The centre also aims at facilitating cooperation with other institutes inside and outside the the University of Iceland.

The learning Centre was founded in the year 2000 when the library, the media centre and the teaching centre merged organizationally. The former College of Education merged organizationally with three other colleges in 1998 and The Iceland University of Education was founded. The former library at the College of Education was founded in 1972. All the colleges had their collections (pre-school education, physical educ., developmental therapy)
The Learning Centre is the main library of The Iceland University of Education and houses the main collection of education, educational psychology and developmental psychology in the country. It is open to the public and may be used by anyone in need of materials within our subjects. There are two other branches, one in Reykjavík (developmental therapy), the other at Laugarvatn (sports/physical education).
The Learning Center is intended to provide creative and flexible learning environment for both students and staff. It provides information sources, learning materials, equipment, accommodation and support. It provides ICT-support for academic staff in design and delivery of learning and teaching.
The Iceland University of Education operates research programmes and houses various institutions that provide services for students, teachers and professionals in the field of education and social pedagogy.
