Born 12.02.1952 in Iceland
Education:
M. Ed. in education from The Iceland University of Education 2001. M. Ed. thesis on didactics of tele-learning. A part of that is a research on teaching children´s literature using a web site on the Internet as a rich environment for learning; meaning getting information, comuinicating and publishing on the Internet as a part of the learning process. The thesis is a part of a research project granted by The Icelandic Research Council in a progamm promoting information technology in Icelandic society which started 1999. B.A. in Icelandic literature and language from University of Iceland 1978, plus teacher licence B. Ed. in primary and secondary schools.
Work: A teacher in Icelandic literature and language in Hamrahlid collage, Reykjavik 1979-1999. Shorter courses at the Iceland University of Education especially on children´s literature. Many courses and lectures in in-service teacher training both on literature teaching and information technology. From 1999 working as a project manager at the research institution at the Iceland University of Education.
Published: Books on literature reading for secondary students, teaching material for adult secondary students in distance education, a web-site on literature for children see http://barnung.khi.is/kennari Journal articles about children´s literature over the years and in the last years also about information technology.
A long experience in Scandinavian cooperation on educational and cultural matters.

Titel: LearnICT using ICT in learning and teaching in Iceland

Beskrivelse: The LearnICT project involves staff of three universities in Iceland, the Iceland University of Education, the University of Reykjavík and the University if Ajureyri. In all 17 researchers are involved, seven of whom are in master's or doctoral prgrammes at the IUE and elsewhere.
The purpose of the project is to consider the opportunities presented when ICT is used as a medium in teaching and learning. To achieve thise purpose there is a need to understand what learning supported by technology involves and how it might contribute to the knowledge base on learning. The main goals of the LearnICT project are:
- To consider the possibilities that the use of ICT as a medium open up for learning and teaching at all levels of scholling.
- To investigate the influence of information technology on schools, teachers and students.
- To explore the interaction between the school and the local community with regard to the use of ICT.
- To increase knowledge on the construction of dirstributed and flexible learning and how it benefits rural districts.
- To improve and increase co-operation between individuals and organisations in the area of educational research on using ICT in education.
